Known as "The Friendliest Port", Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet in mid-Northumberland. It is 1 mile south east of Warkworth and 9 miles south east of Alnwick. The town was built on a point of land that juts out, so providing extensive views of the coastline. The old spelling for Amble is thought to be Annebelle, meaning Anna's Promontory. The town has an extensive beach of soft, golden sands. Amble harbour is now shared by traditional fishing vessels and a modern Marina, full of colourful yachts and other sailing craft. Up river is the imposing sight of Warkworth Castle. During the summer there are regular boat trips from the harbour to the RSPB bird sanctuary at Coquet Island. Coquet Cottage is a traditional stone built terraced house located minutes away from Queen Street host to a mixture of shops, pubs, cafe's, banks etc. At the far end of Queen Street is the new Town Square and Visitors Centre, here you will find one of the largest sundials in europe. The Marina and Harbour is a 5 minute walk.
